Ingredients To Avoid When Choosing Baby Wipes
Omni A. Larrosa – #TheClingyFam
It is natural for moms to want the best for their babies that’s why a lot of moms are very picky when it comes to the brand of baby products they use. When it comes to baby wipes, I must admit, I wasn’t one of those.
I am a mother of three and my eldest child is now turning 6 years old. Ever since I became a mom, I have always been so focused on practicality in selecting baby products. I usually go for what’s the most affordable especially on baby wipes. For me, all baby wipes are the same and they all serve the same purpose – to clean the poop. So I never bothered checking on what ingredients are in there, who the manufacturer is, or pay close attention to what “OA moms” really look out for. I used to think they are wasting tons of money on those “kaartehan”.
Everything changed after I attended an intimate gathering of moms a few days ago.
Me spending time with other amazing moms in a Mom Bloggers Meet-up
To flashback a little, another amazing mom, Dette Zulueta, founder of Millennial Moms asked me if I am willing to help share the news about a new brand of baby wipes. I said yes because, I thought, well, what’s so hard about promoting baby wipes? I mean, it’s a baby essential! As long as it fits my price standards and the quality is at par with other trusted brands out there, then I’m okay!
So, there I went to the ‘Mom Bloggers Meet Up’ event of KinderCarePH Baby Wipes. I already knew and use KinderCarePH eversince I got introduced to it in a Mom Tribe event. I like that it has “Ultra-Safe” in its label which makes me more comfortable using it. But that is not what really made my jaw drop.
Mr. Gov Daswani, founder of KinderCare
While we were all gathered, Mr. Gov Daswani, founder of KinderCarePH told the story of how they recalled all thousands of their stocks from their branches nationwide in 2015 because they found out that there are ingredients in their previous formula for baby wipes that are proven harmful for the body like parabens and some other chemicals I cannot even pronounce correctly. I got alarmed knowing that what we put on the skin, especially on the diaper area goes into the bloodstream and we are putting our babies in a lot of risk by exposing them to harmful chemicals. I started being so concerned and I read about the ingredients that we need to avoid when choosing baby wipes. Most articles would reveal the ones below as the most toxic and dangerous, and some have been attributed to cause cancer and other serious and deadly illnesses:
Knowing that their product is used for babies, KinderCare felt a strong sense of responsibility in keeping it safe so they took a step back and made a serious research on what alternative ingredients can be used to replace the harmful preservatives they used in their previous formula. Part of their research is to check what their competitors use and which ones are proven safe based on ingredients utilized.
From their study, only those made by ‘K-Mom’ and ‘The Honest Company’ are proven safe as it does not have any ingredient that can cause harm to the body. In fact, The Honest Company even topped the rank in the safest baby wipes brand. So, when they decided to reformulate and re-launch KinderCarePH, they thought it would be great if they just follow the ingredients used by The Honest Company instead of reinventing the wheel.
Now, they re-introduce ‘KinderCare Ultra-Safe Baby Wipes’ to let moms know that there is a better choice that will allow us to clean our babies’ mess without compromising their safety. Truly, there are simple ways we can do to keep our babies protected and I felt so guilty that I am one of those who have overlooked this simple yet important aspect before. Thank God it is never too late to make a U-turn and choose right for my three children.
When I got home, the first thing I did was to check the label on the ingredients of all existing baby wipes brands that we have and I am just too sad to find out that at least 2 to 3 of the chemicals above are present in each of the ones we are using. So should we go for the pricier ones to ensure we get the safest one? Not at all! In fact, the most expensive one we use has about three types of paraben in it!
I admire how KinderCare made world-class quality accessible to most of us Filipinos by keeping the prices reasonable.

Final words? I learned this important lesson from this experience: Never ignore the small details!
As they say, the devil is in the details. And as a mom, I have to be wiser by being keen even in the smallest ones. Moreso, when it comes to our children’s safety. So, from now on, I am making it a habit to really check and scrutinize the label before I purchase any baby product, especially baby wipes, as our babies deserve ONLY THE BEST.
